Absentee & Early Voting
Minnesota residents now have three ways to cast a ballot for the General Election on Tuesday, November 8:
In 2012, the Minnesota Legislature passed a law allowing voters to vote absentee for any reason beginning with the 2014 elections. You no longer need to provide an excuse to vote absentee, whether requesting a ballot by mail or when casting your absentee vote in person.
If you know you will be away or unable to get to your polling place on Election Day, you may vote in person at the City Hall of the community in which you reside, or at your county election offices, beginning Friday, September 23 through Monday, November 7. Office locations and contact information is provided below.
You can request an absentee ballot application by calling the city clerk or county election offices, by email, by regular mail, or by applying in person. Once you obtain an absentee ballot, you can return it to the city or county office that provided it, or mail it postage-free in the return envelope provided to the Secretary of State.
If you are not currently registered to vote (including due to a change of address), the ballot form provided to you will include a section to fill out and register.
